Singing Dune (Altyn-Emel)

About Singing Dune (Altyn-Emel)
The Singing Dune, located in Altyn-Emel National Park, is a massive sand dune over 150 meters high and 3 kilometers long. In dry, windy weather, the movement of the sand grains creates a deep, vibrating hum, similar to an organ playing. An eco-friendly visitor center has recently been opened in the park.
Historical Context
Many legends surround the Singing Dune. Geologically, it is a "barchan", a crescent-shaped dune formed by wind carrying sand from the Ili River shoals. It is a key attraction within one of Kazakhstan's most popular national parks.
